Recently I heard about NotebookLM and decided to check it out. When I realized that I could feed it a bunch of pdfs and other sources and then ask it to create a podcast to synthesize the information. I realized this could be a great way for me to internalize information that I’m unfamiliar with. In my 5305 class, the professor suggested that we need to be conversant with a litany of Horizon Reports dating back to the year 2012 up to the present. It’s an exorbitant amount of information just to build a foundation for my literature review. It also included the Meeker’s 2024 Trend Report, which is 340 pages long. So, overall the amount of information to familiarize myself with is overwhelming. Thus I realized that NotebookLM might be a great way to familiarize myself with the broad strokes of these papers.
Therefore, I uploaded 15 pdf files of Horizon reports and the Meeker report within 15 seconds. And then I used the feature to request a longform podcast to summarize and explain the broad strokes. Ten minutes later I had a forty five minute high quality podcast that was witty, engaging, and enlightening. Now I feel like I know which direction to go to engage the literature.
